Painter

Roy Rodgers was educated at Kingston School of Arts. After National Service, he returned to study at Royal Academy Schools where he went on to win the Landseer Painting Scholarship tenable for two years ending in 1962 and David Murray landscape prize and two Landseer medals for painting. In 1963, Roy became the winner of Lord Mayor’s Art Award.
Roy later became a senior lecturer at Harrow School of Art until 1985. He then went on and worked as a sculptor in the British film industry on most of the major films made in the UK until 2009. Films including Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Labyrinth, Empire of the Sun, Alien, Tomb Raider 1 & 2, Hamlet, Elizabeth I, The Mummy 1 & 2, Harry Potter (films 2,3 & 4) and Prometheus to name but a few.
Now as a full time Painter he says ” I do not look at areas within a landscape in terms of what would make a “good picture”, but rather feel a sensation that the place may evoke.
In the same way that taste, smell, or hearing a particular piece of music may effect one’s senses, my paintings are based to a large extent on a combination of memory and on the spot drawings and watercolours.”
Roy also runs oil painting classes, giving demos, lectures, and exhibiting regularly is awe inspiring.
His works can be seen in numerous Private and Public Collections.

“Kenneth Clarke once said ‘the most important thing about painting is that it must be life enhancing.’
To live with a painting by Roy Rodgers is a life enhancing experience, as he always shows us his way of seeing the world. He reveals the world to us, he celebrates the world and he communicates that celebration to us.”
